It works as well for motivated self-learners. The difficulty with the series is obtaining workbooks and tests due to its age. But the vocabulary is measured, the grammar appropriately paced, and the Latin readings interesting. The cultural information is gleaned both from English presentations and in the Latin readings themselves. The entire series comes in four books, and by the time you have reached Book IV, you are largely reading Vergil's Aeneid. An excellent text!
