About the Author
Hito Steyerl is one of the leading artists working in video today. Her work explores the divisions between art, philosophy, and politics. She has had solo exhibitions at, among others, MOCA, LA; the Reina Sofia, Madrid; and the ICA, London. She has participated in the Venice Biennale, Shanghai Biennale, Documenta, and Manifesta. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Tate Modern. She is the author of The Wretched of the Screen and writes in numerous periodicals. She is currently a Professor of New Media Art at the Berlin University of the Arts.

Some good points, but seems to go all over the place. I thought it was going to focus on the art world and its relationship to late stage capitalism, but veers into algorithms, AI, and other contemporary topics. It doesn't go into anything deeply, and constantly makes academic-speak proclamations with little depth. Although I enjoyed reading it, I didn't come away from it having really learned anything new. It seems more of a piece meant to impress other academic arty types in her circle.
An amazing and though provoking book. Hito is an easy to understand writer who is beautifully poetic and pulls together both metaphor and fact in ways that have altered my thoughts on reality. She isn't too lofty or in the clouds.
Great collection of Steyerl's essays. Felt a little short yet full of interesting content.

The author has a story teller’s flair for strategically revealing information only after we have thought through the issue. At other times, she masterfully weaves her disparate thoughts into a sort of free-associative rap that practically turns her text into poetry. It’s simply an intellectual tour-de-force that richly rewards readers who are keen to broaden their thinking about art, politics and struggle.I highly recommend this exceptional book to everyone.
