I really enjoyed this book, the second in a series about a girl who works and rides at a horse stable. Part fiction but part fact, the story rings true to any of us who have loved horses as a teen and were willing to do any dirty job to be near them. Horse lovers and animal lovers alike will both enjoy Gidget as well as Joe. As Vicky grows and learns about horses you truly find yourself rooting for her to do well. The obligatory love interest/bully is also ringing true for me. Who didn't fall in love with a boy at a stable? Vicky is just a way better sport about his insults than I ever was. I found myself reading longer and faster to see what would happen, and when I hit the end I said "what?" it's done? I read it in an e book format so I didn't realize I was that close. Now this can be a stand alone book but you really were left with the sense "and then what happened?" as if Vicky were sitting at your table telling you this story. Add to all this that it is a clean book so no language to bog you down, and the Christian message is quite clear. I am anxiously awaiting book 3 in the series.
Just finished this one..another humorous, matter of fact story, well written and simply a joy to read! The fact that Vicky knew almost nothing about training a horse but taught herself with some reading, common sense, and lots of compassionate love had me hooked from the first book..Joe, the Horse Nobody Loved (Burton's Farm Series, Book One). This book simply added onto that heart-warming appeal and made me buy the next two books in the series. I intend to keep purchasing anything written by Vicky Kaseorg; I completely enjoy her wit, style and obvious love for living beings.
I loved the first book about the horse named Joe so much, I was a little nervous about starting this book. I couldn't see how the author could top the first book, but she has! It was a joy to read how young Vicky grows in confidence through working with a new horse. As an added interest, her new friend Bella is gently introducing her to spiritual things. I can't say enough good things about this book, and it, along with Joe's story, goes on my forever, favorite-books-of-all-time shelf! Highly recommended, especially if you, like me, was a shy, awkward girl who loved horses.
This continuing story of a young girls experiences growing up with horses and learning about people through them, is a great read. I recommend reading her first book in order to really understand her humor and get a feeling for the tone of this story.
I enjoyed this book very much. It was not quite as good as Joe the Horse Nobody Loved, but I still enjoyed reading it. This would appeal to young readers and anyone who enjoys reading about animals. To fully understand the characters, I would recommend reading the book about Joe first, as this is a continuation of that story.
This is the second book in her series and loved it as much as the first. Vicky saves another horse, the horse farm, and helps hurting children. What more could you ask for? The Christian world view is a bonus without being preachy or taking over the story.
Another great book by Vicky. I have read several of her books and this one did not disappoint. She said it is a novel but it reads like non fiction. Very believable. The characters in "Joe" that continue in this book seem the same. The two books are synched very well. Mick was as bad in one as the other.
I bought this book after reading the book Joe The Horse Nobody loved. After reading the first chapter I knew I had to buy this book. Very well written. I enjoyed the story about Vicky and Gidget especially after Vicky lost Joe. I highly recommend this book.
